Born on June 26, 1959, in Gombe, Honourable Justice Adamu Jauro, JSC has dedicated his life to the pursuit of justice and the advancement of legal jurisprudence in Nigeria. He obtained his early education at Central Primary School, Gombe, before proceeding to Government Secondary School, Bauchi. His academic journey continued at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, where he completed his School of Basic Studies and later earned a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree in 1980. Following his legal training at the Nigerian Law School, Lagos, he was called to the Nigerian Bar in July 1981. His thirst for knowledge led him to pursue further studies at the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies and the University of Jos, where he obtained a Master of Laws (LL.M) degree.
Hon. Justice Jauro began his career as a classroom teacher before venturing into the legal profession. He served as a Counsel during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year and later joined the Bauchi State Ministry of Justice in 1982. Over the years, he rose through the ranks, holding various positions, including Officer-in-Charge at the Ministry of Justice, Gombe, and Director of Public Prosecution in both Bauchi and Gombe States. His extensive experience in public service earned him several key appointments, including membership in various commissions of inquiry and committees on governance and legal reform.
In recognition of his judicial excellence, his Lordship was appointed a Judge of the High Court of Gombe State on January 28, 1999. He was later elevated to the Court of Appeal on the December 10, 2007, where he served in several divisions, including Lagos, Enugu, Ibadan, Yola, Jos, Abuja, and subsequently, Makurdi, where he was the Presiding Justice. Throughout his time at the appellate court, he played a pivotal role in shaping legal principles through his incisive judgments and contributions to judicial reforms.
Hon. Justice Jauro has also made significant contributions to electoral adjudication in Nigeria, having served on various election petition tribunals across the country. His experience includes chairing the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the Governorship and Legislative Houses Election Petition Tribunal in Kano State, where he adjudicated numerous electoral disputes. His commitment to judicial integrity and procedural efficiency is further reflected in his role as Chairman of the Committee on the Review of Gombe State High Court Civil Procedure Rules and his participation in the reform of civil and criminal procedure laws in Nigeria.
Beyond his judicial functions, he is an active member of several professional bodies, including the International Society for the Reform of Criminal Law, the Commonwealth Judges and Magistrates Association, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (London), the World Jurist Association, and the International Dispute Resolution Institute. He is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management.
On November 6, 2020, Hon. Justice Adamu Jauro was sworn in as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. His Lordship is a holder of the prestigious national honour of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR). His hobbies include reading, writing and conducting researches.
