Hon. Justice Haruna Tsammani

Born in Mallar Village, Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State, and is an indigene of Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area, Bauchi State. He began his educational journey at Tafawa Balewa Local Education Authority (L.E.A.) Primary School (1967–1973), before proceeding to Government Secondary School (now Government College), Maiduguri, from 1973–1978. He later attended the School of Basic Studies (S.B.S.) at Ahmadu Bello University (A.B.U.), Zaria, from 1978–1979, where he laid the foundation for his law career.

Hon. Justice Tsammani was admitted to the Faculty of Law at A.B.U., Zaria, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) Honours Degree, Second Class Upper Division, in June 1982. He furthered his legal education at the Nigerian Law School, Lagos, and was called to the Nigerian Bar in July 1983.

After completing his National Youth Service in Lagos, where he was assigned to the National Open University, Hon. Justice Tsammani joined the Bauchi State Government in August 1984 as a State Counsel Grade II in the Ministry of Justice. In November 1985, he was appointed a Magistrate Grade II and rose steadily through the Magistracy ranks to Chief Magistrate Grade I. In February 1998, he was appointed Chief Registrar of the Bauchi State High Court.

Hon. Justice Tsammani’s judicial career reached new heights on September 10, 1998 when he was appointed a Judge of the Bauchi State High Court. His dedication and excellence led to his elevation to the Court of Appeal Bench on July 16, 2010, where he served in various divisions, including Ekiti, Owerri, Ibadan, and Port Harcourt. Notably, he served as the Presiding Justice of the Abuja Division before his elevation to the Supreme Court in February 2024.

Hon. Justice Tsammani also had the honor of serving as the Presiding Justice of the Presidential Election Petition Court for the 2023 General Elections, a role that further solidified his stature as a respected jurist.

His Lordship is happily married to Lydia Haruna Tsammani, PhD, a retired Permanent Secretary and the marriage is blessed with five children. A well-travelled individual, Hon. Justice Tsammani has visited several countries, including Israel, India, the United Kingdom, and Zanzibar (Tanzania). His personal interests include reading, basketball, scrabble, and enjoying Lawn Tennis and Football.
