Born on April 7, 1960 in Malumfashi, Katsina State. He began his educational journey at Dudi Primary School, Malumfashi, Katsina State, graduating in 1973. He proceeded to Government Secondary School, Fadan Kaje, Kaduna State, and later completed his secondary education at Government Secondary School, Malumfashi, Katsina State, in 1977. His pursuit of academic excellence led him to Katsina College of Art, Science, and Technology, Zaria, where he obtained his IJMB certificate in 1979. He then enrolled at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he earned an LLB in 1982 before completing his professional training at the Nigerian Law School, Lagos, and being called to the Bar in 1983.
Hon. Justice Tukur began his legal career during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year, serving in the Litigation Department at the Court of Appeal, Benin Division. He was appointed as a Magistrate Grade II in the Kano State Judiciary on January 11, 1985, and rose steadily through the ranks. His outstanding performance earned him several promotions, culminating in his appointment as Chief Magistrate II in 1992.
In November 1995, His Lordship transitioned to administrative roles, becoming Deputy Chief Registrar of the High Court of Justice, Katsina State. His leadership and expertise were further recognized in 1997 when he was appointed Deputy Chief Registrar of the Court of Appeal by the Federal Judicial Service Committee. Over the years, he served in various divisions of the Court of Appeal, including Benin, Jos, and Lagos, where he was responsible for administration and acted as the accounting officer. He was appointed Acting Chief Registrar in December 2003 and confirmed as the substantive Chief Registrar on October 21, 2004.
Hon. Justice Tukur’s judicial career continued to flourish when he was appointed and sworn in as a Judge of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja on April 4, 2007. He served with distinction and was later elevated to the Court of Appeal on March 3, 2014. During his tenure as a Justice of the Court of Appeal, he contributed significantly to adjudicating election petition appeals during the 2015, 2019, and 2023 election seasons.
On February 26, 2024, Hon. Justice Tukur reached the pinnacle of his career with his appointment as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. This well-deserved recognition of his judicial acumen and dedication to justice underscores his exemplary service to the judiciary.
Over the years, His Lordship has participated in numerous workshops and training programs locally and internationally, enhancing his knowledge and skills. These include workshops at the National Judicial Institute and capacity-building programs on economic and financial crimes. He has also attended courses on organizational effectiveness and the administration of courts, further demonstrating his commitment to professional growth.
Hon. Justice Tukur is a devoted family man, blessed with children and grandchildren. His life and career stand as a testament to the values of hard work, integrity, and unwavering dedication to the pursuit of justice.
