An esteemed jurist from Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, was born on 16th June, 1965, at Umuogudu-Akpu Ngbo village. His Lordship’s academic journey began at State Primary School, Oriaja, Ngbo (1971-1976), followed by Uga Boys Secondary School, Uga, Aguata LGA, Anambra State (1976-1981). He furthered his education at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Law (1984-1988). Subsequently, he attended the Nigerian Law School, Lagos, and was called to the Nigerian Bar on December 14, 1989.
Hon. Justice Ogbuinya’s career commenced at the Foundation Law Firm, Ilorin, Kwara State, where he served during his National Youth Service Scheme (1989-1990). He then embarked on a distinguished career in private legal practice, becoming Deputy Managing Solicitor & Advocate at Chike Onyali Chambers, Onitsha, Anambra State (1991-1995). He also served as Legal Adviser to the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly (1992-1993), and later founded and managed Obande Ogbuinya Chambers, Onitsha (1996-2002).
In 2002, Hon. Justice Ogbuinya was appointed as a High Court Judge in Ebonyi State, a position he held until 2010. His remarkable judicial expertise led to his elevation to the Court of Appeal, where he served from 2010 to 2016. From 2016 to 2024, Hon. Justice Ogbuinya served as a Justice of the Supreme Court of The Gambia, further enhancing his vast international experience in legal matters.
On February 26, 2024, his Lordship was appointed as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, marking a significant milestone in his illustrious career.
In addition to his judicial responsibilities, Hon. Justice Ogbuinya has contributed to legal reforms and initiatives. He served as Chairman of the Ebonyi State Law Review Committee, chaired the Panel of Inquiry into the Uburu Crisis, and was a member of numerous Election Petition Tribunals. His contributions to legal scholarship include the authorship of two respected law books: Understanding the Concept of Jurisdiction in the Nigerian Legal System and Guidelines for Interpretation of Nigerian Statutes. He has also presented numerous papers on key legal issues.
Hon. Justice Ogbuinya’s outstanding contributions to the judiciary have been recognized through various commendations by the National Judicial Council. His dedication to public service has earned him numerous prestigious awards, including the National Honours Award of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON).
